A. Personal Statement
I am responsible of the TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH NEUROSURGICAL DISEASES Laboratory at Sapienza University, where recently a new Research Building has been builded up near by Sant’Andrea Hospital where I work as Neurosurgeon. In and out the OR my field of interest is Neurooncology. I study brain tumors from an imaging, clinical and basic science perspective to improve patient safety and maximize the efficacy of current treatments for brain tumors. I have productively worked at the Hunterian Neurosurgical Laboratory where we have published extensively on both gene and drug delivery for brain tumors therapy . The main focus of my translational research has been the development of nano-based drug delivery systems for the treatment of brain tumors. I have led pioneering preclinical studies in this field, all published in journals of high impact factor and conducted in close collaboration with international teams in the United States and Europe. My contributions to the field range from in vivo experiments on the efficacy of gene therapy using local delivery PBAEs to studies on the selective intratumoral delivery of molecules using dendrimers-based formulations after systemic delivery. I have also published the first in vivo studies on a new pectin-galactin complex that targets overexpressing Gal-3 neuroinflammation cells. My other projects have aimed at developing and testing a new formulation for local interstitial chemotherapy using polymeric wafers to deliver new repurposed drugs against glioma
